Live and Let Diet
Anyone that’s a Food Network fan will have noticed that Good Eats/Iron Chef host Alton Brown has been looking quite slim lately.
Turns out Alton has lost 50 pounds in the last nine months. In the latest episode of Good Eats, “Live and Let Diet,” Alton explains how his diet of good eats helped him shed the weight.
I found a lot of his points and his overall eating strategy to be really helpful. Here’s how he lays it all out:
Eat Daily
- Fruits
- Whole grains
- Leafy greens
- Nuts (1 oz a day)
- Carrots
- Green tea
Eat at least 3 times a week
- Oily fish (he’s a big fan of sardines…hmm…we’ll see)
- Yogurt
- Broccoli
- Sweet potatoes
- Avocado
Eat only 1 time a week
- Red meat
- Pasta
- Dessert
- Alcohol
Never eat
- Fast food
- Soda
- Processed meals
- Canned soup
- “Diet” anything
And eat breakfast, every single godforsaken day.
Refreshingly simple, right? But a little more in-depth than Michael Pollan’s “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”
I also like that there’s an emphasis on specific foods that I *must* eat every day or every other day. I like thinking it as “to eat” checklist vs. a “do not eat” one.
Alright, Alton. Let’s see how this works for me!
