merlin:

“Come On, Come On” (1998 Version)

So, speaking of Cheap Trick.

The songs on Cheap Trick ‘s second album were mostly pretty great—certainly full of promise and craft. But ever since In Color’s 1977 release, everybody (including, perhaps most vocally, the band themselves) had complained that producer Tom Werman’s impotent, AM-radio-friendly mix didn’t do the material or the band’s paint-peeling live shows the justice they deserved.

It’s certainly no accident that the version of “I Want You to Want Me” that made Cheap Trick international stars was the blistering live version from At Budokan — rather than the anemic pop smear that got wiped onto the original In Color.

So, to some of the facts that are in evidence, via wikip:

But now, mainstream culture isn’t complacent, it’s stupid and angry; underground culture reacts by becoming smarter, more serene.

Anyone that’s a Food Network fan will have noticed that Good Eats/Iron Chef host Alton Brown has been looking quite slim lately.

Turns out Alton has lost 50 pounds in the last nine months. In the latest episode of Good Eats, “Live and Let Diet,” Alton explains how his diet of good eats helped him shed the weight.

I found a lot of his points and his overall eating strategy to be really helpful. Here’s how he lays it all out:

Eat Daily

Fruits

Whole grains

Leafy greens

Nuts (1 oz a day)

Carrots

Green tea

Eat at least 3 times a week

Oily fish (he’s a big fan of sardines…hmm…we’ll see)

Yogurt

Broccoli

Sweet potatoes

Avocado

Eat only 1 time a week

Red meat

Pasta

Dessert

Alcohol

Never eat

Fast food

Soda

Processed meals

Canned soup

“Diet” anything

And eat breakfast, every single godforsaken day.

Refreshingly simple, right? But a little more in-depth than Michael Pollan’s “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”

I also like that there’s an emphasis on specific foods that I *must* eat every day or every other day. I like thinking it as “to eat” checklist vs. a “do not eat” one.

Alright, Alton. Let’s see how this works for me!
